Out Of The Garden
Exhibition by Jodi Endicott

The paintings and assemblages presented at Artizen by MW Cafe Gallery are Endicott’s personal expressions of our time, specifically those impacting the garden of “Paradise.” In this series, the artist speaks metaphorically using animal imagery, such as the more invasive wild boar or the contributing Shama Thrush. Also incorporated in the paintings and assemblages are words and common materials such as reclaimed objects used every day. Throughout the three-month exhibition, Endicott will present five to ten revolving artworks created during the exhibition that reflect who and what belongs in or out of the garden. It is a personal perception of “life in the garden” that the artist finds resonates with issues impacting her own garden, as well as current society.

Endicott, a graduate of UH Manoa (MFA) is an artist with a social practice. Her art has evolved through her temporary and permanent public art installations throughout the islands. Endicott’s public sculptures and paintings are markers of our time. Many have become woven into the fabric throughout Oahu. In such works, she presents her vision of society then welcomes the viewer to share their experience. This occurs through their interaction with the artworks, seen daily as viewers of all ages share time with Endicott’s “What’s Next” bus rider sculpture near Bishop and King Street/Bank of Hawaii or “S.U.R.F.” sculpture found near the garden at Sunset Beach Elementary School.

Arriving in Hawaii in 1988, she has exhibited extensively in Hawaii and most recently in South Korea. Her works are held by private and corporate collectors such as City and County of Honolulu, State Foundation of Culture and Arts (SFCA), and Alexander & Baldwin LLC, as well many private collections.
