Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 Hawaiʻi State Poet Laureate. The establishment of a Poet Laureate would contribute to Hawaiʻi’s vibrant, multicultural creative community through the power of writing, reading, and spoken word. The elected Hawaiʻi Poet Laureate will receive a stipend of $20,000 per year.⁠

This program has been created to promote and encourage appreciation of poetry and literary life in Hawaiʻi and the poetry community while inspiring an emerging generation of new writers. Launching in 2022 as a collaboration of the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities (@HiHumanities), Hawaiʻi State Public Library System (@HSPLShigov), and the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA).⁠
