Friends of HiSAM July 2017 Update

Experience the new and exciting Friends of the Hawai’i State Art Museum (FHiSAM)! Full ofrenewed energy and ideas, our new board looks to bring the excitement back to the HiSAM with innovative initiatives and events celebrating Hawaii’s diverse art community and the great Museum that houses many of the 6,000+ works of art that the State Foundation of the Culture and Arts has collected since its inception.

Art in Public Places 50th Anniversary Portfolio
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Art in Public Places Program and commemorates Hawai’i becoming the first state in the nation to have a percent for art law, establishing our commitment to supporting local artists by designating a percent of the construction costs ofnew public buildings for the acquisition of works of art, by commission or purchase.

To celebrate this occasion and the renewed efforts of Friends of HiSAM, we created 50 limited edition portfolio gifts for a $500 membership level. Each individually signed and numbered set featured NEW work from some of the most notable artists in the state – Satoru Abe, Allyn Bromley, Jodi Endicott, John Koga, Carl F.K.Pao, and Abigail Romanchak. In less than a month, we’ve sold out of all 50 of the portfolios raising over $26,000 that will be utilized to further promote the museum, Hawaii’s new and renowned artists, and our NEW museum shop!
